Sundargarh Gramya Unnayan Pratisthan (SGUP) is a Non-Government, Non-profit making, Social development organization registered in 1990 in Sundargarh District of Odisha state. It has been working toward socio-political and economic development of tribal, Rural Poor, vulnerable and neglected communities of Sundargarh districts through promotion of livelihood opportunities, capacity building, Natural Resource management, peoples’ organization, Networking and Right based Advocacy activities.

SGUP has been taking lots of programmes for Natural Resource management and livelihood promotion in harmony with nature.

Livelihood is the core objective of all developmental initiatives of SGUP and the organisation gives importance to enhance the income, food, and nutrition and livelihood security of the community through its programmes.

SGUP has promoted and strengthen village level organisations to ensure a participatory community development process in village level.

SGUP has been given importance on gender justice and gender mainstreaming in all its approach and work. It has been given priorities to strengthen women socially, politically and economically, so that they could come forward and participate in all decision making process of villages.

To incorporate the village youth mass in to development process, SGUP has promoted village level youth organisations and organised them to participate in village development activities, village harmony, promotion of village sports and games and provided different vocational and skill development training for better livelihood.

The SHGs are engaged in saving and micro credit activities
The Organisation has strengthen their capacity by giving different trainings and exposure.
After taking skill development trainings and getting fund support from banks SHGs are engaged in enterprises like bamboo craft production, vegetable business, grocery shop, tailoring shop, food processing units, turmeric and vegetable cultivation, goat rearing, poultry and small business in groups and as individual.

‘WADI’ the sustainable livelihood for my family-Dutiya Naik

Dutiya Naik age – 45, s/o Kumaramani Naik village Niktimal Bonai block , Sundargarh district Participated in the motivation meeting of Wadi project in their village and became the member of UBS formed for implementation wadi in their village in the year 2014. He belongs to BPL family having only 4 acres of dry up land not fit for low land cultivation.he is earning his livelihood from the daily wages and he usually migrates to outside odisha for six months in a year for the labor work. He has a joint family of 10 members 2 brothers and their spouses, two sons one is 6 years and the other is 3 years It was difficult to manage a joint family even though his other brothers are earning from daily wagesHe has planted 63 plants in 0.9 acres of land mango- 43 and Cashew 20 in July 2015

‘WADI’ helped me to fulfill my obligation to my family-Arakhita 

Arakhit kishan s/o Indramani kishan mother – Sukmani kishan wife – mrs Sunei Kishan ,daughter Chaturi kishan belongs to Silinguda ubs of Barahachhapl village of Bonai block has been included in the WADI project ofnABARD in the year 2016. He has one son of 5 years and one daughter of 2 years. He is having only 3 acrs of Dry up land and doing only up land paddy in only one acre. He belongs to a BPL family having facing lot of problem in getting food, clothing, and maintaining his social and health needs due to his poverty.Being influence and motivated by the wadi of nearby village and staff of SGUP-NABARD wadi project he joined in the Wadi activities by signing the agreement and giving all his land and other documents. He has planted 70 plants (mango 48 and Cahew 22) in one acre of Wadi .
